FOR OUR CHILDREN'S HEALTH

I hear a great deal of discussion about two current issues in American politics, gun control and same-sex marriage. Some pundits assert that gun control for example is vitally important to save or protect our children and others caution that same-sex marriage is dangerous and will somehow destroy our children or alternately is desperately needed to build up families. However,  if I were to suggest how we could all make our children's lives better without all the political posturing, here are a few ideas I recommend.

END MANDATORY VACCINES
Let parents choose, period. Too many vaccines too early in life can do great damage to a child's nervous system and immune system. The current protocol of recommendations, many of which are required for school admission in the US, are absurd.

EDUCATE PARENTS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF CHLORINE AND FLUORIDE
These common chemicals in water are dangerous. Water can be purified with Ozone, which is completely safe, while Fluoride is dangerous and only mildly effective in the best case scenario regarding dental health and should be banned from city water and dental products.

BAN ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS AND FOOD ADDITIVES SUCH AS EXCITOTOXINS
Extraordinarily dangerous are these food additives and artificial sweeteners such as MSG and ASPARTAME.

PLEDGE NOT TO PRESCRIBE PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATION FOR ANYONE UNDER 25
End the experimentation on childrens' brains once and for all. As dangerous as these drugs are for adults, they are far worse for a child's brain that isn't fully developed. Suicide, once rare for children, is now a leading cause of death, and many researchers attribute that to the use/overuse of psychiatric medication for children. Additionally, most of the shooters in our recent epidemic of mass shootings are also on some kind of psychiatric medication, many of which have side-effects like suicide and violent outbursts.

PROVIDE ONE YEAR MATERNITY LEAVE FOR EACH PARENT
This would provide that every newborn child in America would have the opportunity for two years of uninterrupted time in a critical stage of development and bonding with their parents.

EDUCATE PARENTS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF LOW FAT/NON-FAT FOODS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF VITAMIN D GAINED THROUGH SUN EXPOSURE
The two worst cultural trends in our society in the last 25 years are the proliferation of information that sun exposure is dangerous and low fat diets are healthy. Our brains need Vitamin D desperately and the best way to get it is through sun exposure, meaning you cannot use sunscreen and get vitamin D! Low fat diets wreck havoc on the body's immune system and brain development in children and have no relation whatsoever to obesity, except that they promote it! The NY Times estimates 9 billion dollars a year is spent on ADD/ADHD medications, and much of these diagnoses, I believe, could be avoided if children got enough healthy fats in the diet.

LIMIT CELL PHONE USAGE AND AVOID WI-FI NETWORKS IN THE HOME
Plenty of studies have been muted or ignored which investigate the dangers of cell phone usage and Wi-Fi frequencies on developing brains. Children's cell phone usage should be limited, and they should always use the speaker phone, not holding the device right up to their brains. Wireless networks in the home are not a good idea as constant exposure to low level frequencies may cause brain changes over time.

Regarding larger political issues:

BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET DEFICIT
Few political issues are more damaging to the future of our children than growing up in a country so strangled with debt. Politicians should be forced to balance the budget as matter of policy and service to their constituents.

A NATIONWIDE INITIATIVE TOWARD SUSTAINABLE, RENEWABLE ENERGY
Why not a ten year plan like Kennedy did with the space program in the 1960s? We can't fix our environmental issues over night but we are making no progress and acting like the problems don't even exist. We need a drive to create and implement real green technology and clean, renewable, and sustainable energy.
